Good and Evil - Joey Wins, Kyle Busch Wrecks the Field | | By Carol Einarsson | 06/30/2009 | Category: Cheers and Jeers | | | CHEERS to the change in the booth. Sure, maybe it was only because of a “loud, public confrontation” that we also learned may have been broken up by peacemaker Kyle Petty, but even in the absence of much notice or a suit from home, Ralph is sure to be a great addition to the race! (And seriously, what could have been so wrong in his hotel room, not enough hair products?) Rumor has it that both the bartender and the desk clerk at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manchester know what really happened.
CHEERS to The Pride of NASCAR: Wood Brothers. And I can’t imagine anyone else doing that interview but Kyle Petty. That group right there and the history they represent is NASCAR at its best, and Kyle Petty interviewing the men that are the foundation of our sport is TNT race broadcasting at its best.
CHEERS to a staggering statistic: 20 of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers have raced for The Wood Brothers.
CHEERS to Stoley with his reflection on TV for the Ryan Newman interview! I think we should have all the interviews in front of the mirrored doors of the haulers.
JEERS to the looks of those clouds overhead. I wonder if we’ll be looking at Monday racing this week.
CHEERS to David Reutimann’s favorite movie, Stroker Ace. “Fastest chicken in the South!”
CHEERS to the theme of Lindsay on a boat. At least they didn’t make her fish this time, and she got to drive! Extra CHEERS to the TNT guys balancing on the bow.
CHEERS to Kyle Petty’s fishing techniques, and of course, practicing “catch and release”. And Yanni racing! If you want to see the whole entertaining piece, it’s here.
CHEERS to the question about using rain tires so NASCAR doesn’t have to postpone a race for rain and leave race fans (pardon the pun) high and dry. I wonder if the phenomenon of rain following the series explains at least part of the dip in attendance at tracks. Who wants to spend that much on a race trip only to have it either shortened by rain, or run on Monday after you’ve had to return home?
CHEERS to the Photoshop magic at TNT, and Marc, Larry, and Kyle in the photo with their bear friend sneaking up from behind.
JEERS to the competition caution planned for lap 35, but CHEERS to Marc’s understanding being the same as mine (but evidently not shared by NASCAR): If a natural caution comes out before that, no need for it. Why doesn’t NASCAR get that concept?
CHEERS to the Zippy/Joey interview. Those two are magic together, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen another driver so willing to be shaped and molded into greatness as young Mr. Logano. And we especially like Zippy in the big brother/father role.
CHEERS , also, to the pattern that TNT seems to have (intentionally or otherwise) of stacking a broadcast with one pit reporter’s work. Last week it seemed every sit down interview and field trip interview was done by Matt Yocum, and this week it’s Lindsay Czarniak.
CHEERS to seeing “little” Jimmie Johnson! And that was before he knew not to put the trophy in front of his face. It was nice to see those highlights, and especially with the accompanying race footage that had been called by Ralph Sheheen all those years ago.
JEERS to the person in charge of finding talent to sing the anthem. Something went wrong there.
CHEERS to Jack with his hand (and hat) over his heart, but JEERS to looking at a flag from underneath and thinking, “Yup, this looks about right.” I wonder when they figured out it was backwards.
CHEERS to THE Night Race. Indeed. “Racing the way it oughtta be.” Nothin’ better than Bristol at night.
CHEERS to the booth improvement at TNT. Ralph Sheheen has worked long and hard in the business and it’s nice to see him get that recognition. One nice side benefit is that his voice is (at least for me) so tied to lower series that inherently have more excitement, so just hearing him calling the race makes it feel more exciting already!
CHEERS , also, to managing a suit for the broadcast. Arriving just ten minutes before the broadcast, even! Very nice! And did you notice that before they knew he’d have a suit, partner Wally dressed down so they’d match?
JEERS to trouble for Patrick Carpentier, especially so early in the race.
JEERS to remembering restrictor plates at Loudon and the nightmare that was. Well, nightmare for everyone that wasn’t Jeff Burton, anyhow.
JEERS to a slide putting Jamie in the wall. CHEERS , though, to Kyle’s assessment, “If you ever wanna hit a wall – if you ever HAVE to hit a wall – that’s the way you want to do it.”
CHEERS to a good reason for lines on the race track, not for drivers, but for blame when there’s a wreck.
JEERS to a spotter not believing an apology.
CHEERS to the tell-tale sign of a car started, and CHEERS to Kyle Petty playing the offense card for AJ Allmendinger, but JEERS to what seemed like a car sitting waiting for a yellow flag.
CHEERS to Steve Addington coming over to apologize, but JEERS to his driver who has no excuse for hitting a crewman in front of him. Can a driver see a guy coming down pit road? Maybe not. Can he see all of his own crewmen as they move about his car? Not usually. But should he be able to see a guy standing in front of his own hood? Always.
CHEERS to Mark Martin being good on every race track!
JEERS to a dual spin by Michael Waltrip and Elliott Sadler, but what made Robby spin? Nobody hit him at all. Just didn’t wanna be left out, maybe?
CHEERS to throwing it to Marty and not sounding angry! We love Ralph!
CHEERS to Martin Truex spending his 29th birthday fishing with his dad. What a cool thing to do.
CHEERS to the camera angle low on the 42 team as we see a red-legged crewman scamper by on a pit stop.
JEERS to backing up by mistake. It gave me an instant mental picture of a pull-down lever over the steering wheel with a PRNDL and David clunking it from one to the other and accidentally staying in reverse.
CHEERS to the good ol’ days and everyone NOT catching fire every time, and CHEERS to Kyle having a lock-out on EVERY gear.
CHEERS to birthday boys, Jeff Burton, Mike Skinner, and Junior Johnson, but I don’t like thinking about Junior Johnson being 78 years old already.
JEERS to more reports of crewmen in trouble.
CHEERS to Kyle Petty and Ralph Sheheen, moments away from being rock stars!
CHEERS to Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon racing like two champions should. It’s nice to see Kurt up front again, and who’d have ever expected me to say that?
JEERS to a locked up car in the wall, and all the parts at Menard’s useless to fix it.
JEERS to a bonehead from Las Vegas taking out three RCR cars in one stupid move. What is the problem he has staying in line on a restart? Every restart he thinks he has to go where other people haven’t thought to go, but here’s a newsflash, Skippy, they don’t go there because they’re smart enough not to!
CHEERS , I guess, to that on-board camera. We’d rather that hadn’t happened, but since it did, we were glad to see such fantastic footage of it up close and personal.
CHEERS to post-wreck interviews showing man after man able to compose himself and speak to the media amid his own disappointment. Imagine that.
CHEERS to Kyle Petty being in the booth even if I couldn’t disagree with him more. “People are gonna say this is Kyle Busch’s fault…” Yes we are. Because it was.
CHEERS to open mics earlier than Wally expected, “This will be a Kyle bash.” And Martin Truex handling his interview with more maturity than the punk in the 18 will likely ever have.
CHEERS to “Say ‘shootout style’ Wally!” And bigger CHEERS to Wally for refusing.
CHEERS to Jeff Burton, “We’ll go build some more stuff and come back... Nine races is an eternity in this sport.” Is there a more level-headed guy in the sport than Jeff Burton? “We’ve wrecked here on single-file restarts, too; let’s be clear about that.”
CHEERS to “There’s a lot of people out there that would say that’s a wife’s job, too.” In the absence of you-know-who, I’m wishing TNT had ALL the races! This group is fun!
CHEERS to messages not intimidating the other driver, but just ticking him off a little more. And sure ‘nough, Kurt doesn’t look especially threatened by that last message from Jeff Gordon.
CHEERS , also, to what looks like Kurt about to manage to take out teammates all on his own. I wonder if he’s tired of that little brother getting all the bad press.
JEERS to the crab walk on the 20. That’s never a good look for a race car.
CHEERS to Joey, though, wrapping up that spin just before he got to the commitment cone.
CHEERS to reasonably-full stands at the race track.
JEERS to windshield wipers on the pace car, but we like Wally’s answer, “Bugs.”
CHEERS to what looked like Kurt losing spots, but then he pushes Jimmie outta the way the same way he pushed Jeff outta the way. On purpose…?
JEERS to a Red Bull in the fence, and then being dragged away on a hook.
CHEERS to Sam Hornish working his way to the front to ride with his teammate in a match against HMS.
CHEERS to Clint Bowyer, the lone Childress survivor. I don’t know that it would offset the three wrecked cars, but Richard would probably feel a little better if Bowyer won.
CHEERS to “Every time we go somewhere and they drag out their back up car, they win. Just RACE your back up car!”
CHEERS to Tony in the lead!
JEERS to Ryan out of fuel, but CHEERS to the paint job on that 39 car. I’ve not mentioned this before, but it looks enough like the familiar 3 car without being intentionally so. When we see it, we’re reminded, but not torn up inside. It’s just a gentle memory revisited, and we like that.
CHEERS to no penalty for Ryan despite the jackman holding his jack and pushing the car out of the box. And CHEERS to the crew not giving up, chasing that car, squirting, pushing, chasing,…
CHEERS to Joey in the lead at a most crucial time! Like they said earlier, the money spends the same, the trophy sits on the shelf the same. A win is a win!
CHEERS to that “Five-dollar foot long” song staying in Carl’s head, too. And CHEERS for him pseudo-singing on TV, too.
CHEERS to “And this helps these guys that are trying to save a little fuel. This helps them to bring ‘em down pit road and cut ‘em off….. Obviously…. That was a stupid statement; that really was.”
JEERS to rain, but at least it was hanging around all day and didn’t take anyone by surprise. The clouds looked mean from the get-go.
JEERS to the sound being off after the rain came. What was that about?
CHEERS to David Reutimann, “Whatever you do, don’t walk away from your race car!” Great advice from one who knows!
CHEERS to remembering Kyle’s first win, and his rain-shortened wins, and recognizing that it's never too early in a career for a win. [edited for correction]
CHEERS to support from a multi-champ like Jeff Gordon telling Joey that it doesn’t matter how you get the wins.
CHEERS , also, to the “friendly push” from Jeff Gordon during Kurt Busch’s interview.
CHEERS to a fourth-place finish for David Reutimann, too!
CHEERS to a hug from Dad as soon as it was final.
CHEERS to Tony coming over to the old team to hug Zippy and congratulate the whole group. And CHEERS to Zippy for being so relaxed waiting for that final call that he was standing around blowing bubbles with his gum.
CHEERS to Joey Logano, the youngest winner ever in NASCAR Cup racing! Let the record-breaking begin!
JEERS to rain spoiling the Victory Lane celebrations, but CHEERS to all of those PR guys that dragged stuff around and into the garages for the photos to still be taken.
CHEERS to the post-race parade of race cars being pushed backwards down pit road. I wonder if the crews ever race that way.
And finally,
CHEERS to Greg Zipadelli being the best kind of crew chief. I think he’s often overshadowed by guys like Chad Knaus, but if you think about the history we’ve seen Zippy go through, the fact that he’s still sane is remarkable in itself. He was by Tony’s side through the worst of days, and by his side through the best days, too. Then he started all over again with a kid and all the pressure on him to live up to the hype. He handles himself without controversy, and without seeking the limelight. He just works hard, stays focused, and seems on his way to producing another champion for Joe Gibbs Racing.
| | | Comments: | | ooh I'm first
CHEERS to Ralph Sheheen in the booth, it was awesome.
CHEERS to Kyle Petty just for the self deprecation in the booth. He's awesome also.
JEERS to the 18 car's impatience
CHEERS to me, I think I am actually liking Joey more and more. For a minute there I thought he was going to be as bratty as the driver in the 18 car, but that is not the case. I think the challenges earlier in the year have humbled him.
CHEERS to a great column Carol |
| | Regarding the national anthem; I read that Miss New Hampshire was originally going to do a magic act that involved doves. Unfortunately someone dumped water on the doves and they drowned. Officials decided that she could sing the national anthem instead even though she was quoted saying "But I've never sang in my life!".
I heard those birds and her magic act were something else.
While I feel that Kyle Busch's wreck on that restart was 90% a racing deal, I can't help but feel that if Kyle wasn't always trying to make something happen on restarts, he could have avoided plowing into Truex. I mean Truex had enough control on the restart to avoid hitting Jr, why couldn't Kyle (the guy with all the talent) do the same. IMO the best part of the double file restart is that you can't make any pass until you cross the start finish line. This has taken away one of Kyle's main tactics to gain a few positions cheaply.
Can't say I missed Weber. I think my main problem with him is the air of self-importance he carries with him. At least that's my impression.
If NASCAR could control the weather I'd swear they fixed it so Logano/Home Depot would win that race because of the amount of $$$ Home Depot spends in NASCAR. But NASCAR can't control the weather (yet) so I dismiss those thoughts. Still it's hard to feel good about someone who backed into a win with a car that wasn't really that great. At least when Reutimann did it at Charlotte, he had a somewhat competitive car.
|
| | I was just reading a tweet, that Blondie is also out for Daytona and Chicagoland.
hmmm wonder if he'll be back next year.
|
| | CHEERS to two champs starting on the front row! How cool to see Jeff G and Tony, two of the best, start side by side.
CHEERS to Jeff leading and CHEERS to those great restarts!
JEERS to Kurt for squeezing Jeff up and almost into the wall for several laps. Jeff was giving as much room as possible, but there was a wall there to consider. CHEERS to Jeff's spunk and warning, letting Kurt know...I will race you, like you race me.
CHEERS to Jeff giving Kurt a little tap post race. Two professionals who know its just racing at the end of the day.
JEERS to Kyle Busch being impatient. Ruining the day for so many.
CHEERS to Martin Truex and the "almost" helmet throw...lol JEERS tho to his day being cut short, he had a great car.
JEERS to rain!
CHEERS to the #20 team! BIG CHEERS to Joey Logano!! How great to see that kid get his first win! Joey is very likable. CHEERS to Zippy, taking that gamble and winning.
|
| |
JEERS to the false headline, the truth, JR wrecks the field.
JEERS to the blinders HATERS always seem to be saddled with
|
| | CHEERS to being at the track.
JEERS to not knowing about Blondie.
CHEERS to great racing all around the track. With a big cheer to Jeff and Kurt for a lot of excitement.
CHEERS to the fans realizing they can see the whole track sitting down even when wrecks were happening.
JEERS to Rt106 being the usual parking lot after the race.
Lastly CHEERS to Carol allowing me to "see" what was on tv. |
| | | CHEERS to you Carol for finally realizing the class act Jeff Gordon has always been.... |
| | What is wrong with Kyle Busch? Personally, I measure talent not only by a drivers success, but also by thier ability to make smart, reasonable decisions on the track. Yeah, Kyle can win races, but how many times has he done something stupid like he did on Sunday? That being said, is he really THAT good? Use your head, kid!
Congratulations to Joey. I have to admit, I'm not really believing in all the hype about this kid...but he's a very humble driver that hasn't let his early success in racing get to his head. However....
JEERS to not being able to do burnouts on your first win! I mean yeah, mother nature won him the race but she also cost him a post race victory celebration. It just seems less exciting when you are already out of the car standing on pit road when you the checkered waves.
Regarding Ralph in the booth; I agree with Bill B. Bill Weber just seems to have this pompous attitude about him. I hear that this same attitude is might what have gotten him in trouble at the hotel in the first place.
Aside from Weber's annoying tendancies, I am much more impressed with TNTs coverage lately than years in the passed. At one time I could have been labled as a FOX fanboy but they just seem to be reaching too far, trying too hard to be entertaining. It's not working for them. I regret admittit this but I have found TNTs coverage to have been improving since NBC choose not to bid on a contract and BP passed away. Bless his soul, but I never enjoyed his race coverage. TNT has is going on these day though. Kyle Petty has a great, honest, on-air personalilty.
|
| | ezrider714,
Re: "JEERS to the blinders HATERS always seem to be saddled with"
Are the blinders that FANatics always seem to be saddled with any better?
|
| | | CHEERS to the booth! CHEERS to the stands looking full! CHEERS to short track racing! CHEERS to my boy Jr. having a good enough car to run with the usual suspects! CHEERS to Jr. because I just love him! JEERS to the restart that found 3 RCR cars out of the race. I know Jr. spun on the restart, but if Martin Truex could stay off his bumper, then why couldn't the #18? CHEERS to my blinders, but let me correct you ezrider714, I don't hate anybody. JEERS to a rain shortened race, but CHEERS to that smile! |
| | CHEERS to no Blondie and a great job by Ralph!
CHEERS to Joey accepting the win with grace. He didn't get overly excited, probably because of how he came by it, but was still very happy. I may end up liking this kid after all.
JEERS to the butchering of the National Anthem. I fast forwarded through it.
CHEERS to Junior running in third, but bummer on spinning the tires.
JEERS to Kyle's impatience causing a big mess. Where I live, if you run into the back of someone because you were following too closely and not paying attention it is your fault. |
| | | JEERS to all the Kyle Busch haters who are either to ignorant or blind to realize that Jr. caused the back up of cars by not having control of his car on the restart. Kyle too was a victim, just via the media. |
| | I gotta say that the "big one" was as much Dale Jr's fault as it was anyone's. Green flag drops- you go or you get out of the way. He didn't do either.
Because of that, a wreck was going to happen there. Period. If it hadn't been Kyle & Truex, it would have been someone else in that general vicinity. (Probably whomever was behind Kyle or next in line.) Someone was going to wreck. It's a shame, but cannot, IMO, be blamed solely on Kyle.
But since it is sacrilegious to blame JR- I'll just call it "one of dem racin deals."
JEERS to me for forgetting to rewind my race tape before trying to record the race and only getting a small portion of the race. dangit...
CHEERS to Joey. Good job to him and Zippy. It's good to see the 20 back in victory lane. :) |
| | | Carol, they were talking about Kyle's first win in the Cup series at Richmond in 1986 driving the #7 7-Eleven Ford for the Wood Brothers...a full 7 years before New Hampshire was even on the Cup schedule (4 years before it made it onto the Busch/Nationwide series schedule). In fact, Kyle has never won at New Hampshire in Cup (has not run a Busch/Nationwide race there)...his best finish is 8th 3 times (1993 and 1994 driving the #42 Mello Yello Pontiac and 1998 driving the #44 Hot Wheels Pontiac). |
| | Bandit33,
You're right. I just now went back and reviewed, and sure 'nough they said Richmond. Why they started talking about Richmond, I don't know, but apparently I missed it. Thanks for the correction!!
C |
| | I'd just like to reiterate "CHEERS to The Pride of NASCAR: Wood Brothers." I would gladly have sacrificed the rest of the pre-race to see that entire conversation.
re: "the wreck." Yes, Dale Jr started the situation by spinning his tires (like countless other drives do all the time). And yes, Kyle B "finished it" by trying too hard at the wrong time (like countless other drivers to all the time). You'll have to look long 'n hard to find someone who likes 'the shrub' less than I do, but I'd label this one as "one of them racin' deals" moreso than not. |
| | JEERS to Carol for mis-stating the cause of the big wreck. Dale Jr. is simply incompetent and having him near the front of the field all but guarantees a wreck that takes out the real contenders.
But the Kyle-haters are even more predictable than Junior's late race fade to nowhere.
Here is a more accurate summary of events:
"Around lap 170, Paul Menard got into the wall and draw a caution. The ensuing restart saw a melee that reminded a fan of Talladega. Dale Earnhardt Jr. spun his tires, causing Martin Truex to check up and go low to avoid Junior. While trying to merge back in for the setup to Turn 1, he nearly pinned Kyle Busch to Juan Pablo Montoya, and with nowhere for Kyle to go but straight, Truex was nudged in the back and sent around. Truex would collect Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and Casey Mears. Brian Vickers, David Ragan, Jamie McMurray, and David Reutimann would also be involved."
|
| | @RachelG
Junior only finished 13th because of the rain, and strategy. I'm quite sure if the race had kept going he would have been in the top five. |
| | Hi Carol,
You wrote: "CHEERS to a staggering statistic: 20 of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers have raced for The Wood Brothers. "
Makes me wonder what result you'd get if you counted up those who drove for Junior, or for Holman-Moody. (Indeed, for Holman-Moody, the question might be how many of the 50 greatest _didn't_ drive for them. With Petty, Pearson, both Allisons, Yarborough, Yarbrough, Turner, Lorenzen, Johnson, Weatherly, Jarrett they've certainly got the top of the table covered).
And you wrote: "CHEERS to THE Night Race. Indeed. “Racing the way it oughtta be.” Nothin’ better than Bristol at night."
Umm, Darlington on a Labor Day afternoon, perhaps?
Also you wrote: "CHEERS to Kyle Petty and Ralph Sheheen, moments away from being rock stars!"
I wonder how many folks remember Kyle Petty, country music star? (and I wonder why my comments are sounding like "jes' wondering" this week.)
Plus you wrote: "CHEERS to no penalty for Ryan despite the jackman holding his jack and pushing the car out of the box. And CHEERS to the crew not giving up, chasing that car, squirting, pushing, chasing,… "
Perhaps a gentle Jeer to TNT is in order - Newman was penalized a pass-thru for the car being pushed more than 3 pit boxes (I don't think the jack actually left the pit box, so that would be OK).
And, since it didn't get mentioned, CHEERS to Kyle & Wally for the loose wheel comments: "it's usually after only 4 or 5 laps, and it's sudden". That's the kind of small detail we like to hear (and that the travelling buffoon show on FOX never gives us).
John

| | @RachelG
I could turn your comments around on you, saying that the Jr haters are more predictable than Kyle trying to jump out and gain positions before he gets to the start/finish line on a restart. But I won't...lol
Anyway, all jokes aside.
Jr spun the tires, which is a very common occurance on restarts. It is also common knowledge that drivers know to pay attention to what is happening in front of them on a restart, due to the possibility of something like this.
I have seen countless drivers spin the tires on restarts and no one behind them wreck. It is all in who is paying attention and who is not.
Kyle has taken responsibility for the incident, which I commend him for. For the first time he is not blaming someone or something else. |
| | Junior fans: It is what it is. The wreck started with Junior. Yes, my comment may have been too harsh - so have Kyle's critics been overly harsh. I really don't have a big problem with Junior's fans - just Carol, who claims to be some kind of journalist and should know better than to paint an inaccurate picture of what happened.
What the Kyle-haters are missing is that the car directly behind Jr. (Truex) had a better view of the problem developing than those from Kyle on back.
And the finish also is what it is. Logano won, Junior was 13th. Since Junior typically fades at the end of a race, there is no reason to believe racing to the end would have given him a top five. Let him prove himself this weekend at a track where he used to run well. |
| | RachelG: Every journalist writes according to what "they" see. Just because it happens to be different from what you see, does not make them any less of a journalist. Actually, it is refreshing to read a journalist who has independent thought and isn't afraid to write it.
Evidently you think everyone should agree with you saw. You need to take that ego of yours down a notch and join the rest of us here in the real world.
What you are missing is that Kyle is the only driver who made contact, so its Kyle's fault. Sorry, it is what it is. Kyle has owned up to it, now his fans should follow his lead. |
| | @ highbanks24:
You wrote:
"Evidently you think everyone should agree with you saw. You need to take that ego of yours down a notch and join the rest of us here in the real world."
you can all feel free to join me in eddo-land. I'm over here on the right, and in my world everyone eats rainbows and poops butterflies. :)
You do have to agree with me all the time, though, or no rainbows for you. |
| | Highbanks - My problem with Carol is that all she EVER sees is what is favorable to her chosen drivers. Junior can do no wrong. Sadler can do no wrong. Kyle Petty could do no wrong on the track or in the broadcast booth. Kyle B. can do no right. It is not my ego that is the problem here. It is Carol's hormones. She l-o-v-e-s certain drivers and hates the rest. Doesn't even need to watch the race to write her column. She will ALWAYS cheer and jeer the same people.
And please note the part of my original post that was in quotes came from another source - not just my view, but another journalist's view.
And since when do the Kyle-bashers believe anything KB says? Maybe he just said it because he has been told by his PR people to dial it down a notch.
As Jimmy Spencer once said, "I get blamed for wrecks when I wasn't even in the race."
In 1992 at Daytona, Bill Elliott, Sterling Marlin and Ernie Irvan wrecked all going for the lead. Of course, Irvan got the most heat. Same story today; just the names have been changed. |
| | "The best you can ever hope to be is fair."
-David Poole
Carol does not even try to be fair. |
| | | Wow the racing is so bad even the CHEERS and JEERS is boring. Hope next week will have a more interesting one. Im getting tired of her putting the same people down and praising the same. I mean she is repeating herself and thats bad! |
| | CHEERS to Carol for another great C&J column!
CHEERS to Joey - his smile makes me smile!
CHEERS to Reutimann passing along some great advice!
JEERS to the rain - my favs were moving up!
CHEERS to the guys in the booth - love 'em!
JEERS to the "singer" - made my ears bleed!
CHEERS to Jeff Burton ALWAYS taking the high road, which only adds to my respect for him every week!
CHEERS to Carol & I sharing the same opinion 99 percent of the time!
|
| | | I fine it interesting that TNT refuses to make comment concerning Bill Weber's conduct in the NH hotel. You would think they have a moral responsibility to report the facts as they do when it concerns other people. Reporters have no problems turning over rocks to find the dirt on evreyone else. Guess the code of silence isn't just blue.... |
| | @ RachelG
If you don't like what Carol writes... then don't read her articles. You're obviously a Junior hater so you're not gonna agree with any "cheer" he gets whether deserving or not. It's not that big of a deal. Everyone has an opinion and that's what journalism is.
It's not like Junior's the first driver to spin his tires on a restart, he won't be the last. It happens... |
| | | AMEN... don`t like CHEERS&JEERS, don`t click on it and come here!......... Good Job ,Carol!... enjoyed Ralph!!... waiting for ESPN and DJ!! |
| | @RachalG
You wrote: "And since when do the Kyle-bashers believe anything KB says? Maybe he just said it because he has been told by his PR people to dial it down a notch."
So you are insinuating that KB's PR people told him to lie and say this was all his fault? Why? What reason would they have to do that? Why would they want him to dail it down a notch, I thought they were proud of his rebel behavior.
How sad, Kyle's fans are so use to him acting a fool, when he does something decent they think he is lying.
As far as Carol, this is her site. If I don't like what she writes, I don't have to point and click in this direction.
I enjoy Carol's columns, I don't always agree with everything, but that's life. She gives us the opportunity to give our opinions. I don't come here to bash her, nor do I take it personal who she CHEERS and JEERS. Its not that deep. |
| | CHEERS to Ralphie! I loved him in the booth and if the rumors are true I look forward to seeing him in the booth on Saturday and possibly longer w00t! w00t!
CHEERS to the Wood Brothers too! It's such a shame that they're not there week in and week out fighting for the win :( but what an awesome list of drivers who drove for them :).
JEERS to the person in charge of finding talent to sing the anthem.
Agreed! There is a *very short* list of who should be allowed to sing. |
| | @RachelG Carol hasn't always Cheered Junior, there have been times when her and the assistant have Jeered him. I am a Junior fan and I don't always stick up for him. If he causes a mess I'll be one of the first to admit it.
re: the driver of the 18 car, well let's just say at the moment I choose not to see him in a favorable light. I think he needs to grow up and be a man. Once he starts doing that consistently then maybe I'll change my mind.
|
| | Major CHEERS to those that understand that coming here is completely optional. JEERS to those that don't.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why folks spend time at a place that upsets them so.
CHEERS to Carol, this site, and her willingness to let us disagree with her. You won't find that every where folks. :) |
| | What happened with Bill Weber that got him out of the booth?
Is there a web site some where that has a story I can read?
I am SO glad he wasn't there this weekend. I think he is a ego maniac and a blowhard. |
| | | JEERS to you all that label others as "haters". We don't hate anyone; it's all racing that doesn't affect our checkbooks one way or another. And if you don't like what Carol writes, just go away! AnnR, Bill Weber got into an altercation at his hotel that evidently was not TNT worthy. |
| | per the Daly Planet, Bill is now out the last two races and Ralph Sheheen will continue in the booth.
Three CHEERS for TNT |
| | Bill B
NOT a Kyle Busch fanatic
after 40yrs of being involved in and following racing I call them as I see them regardless of who's involved, unlike the headline writer. |
| | @eddo
I second that CHEERS to Carol, she allows us the opportunity to speak our minds, whether she agrees or not.
Also, CHEERS to eddo-land, only place on earth where you get to eat rainbows.
(not sure about pooping out butterflies, how about a pot of gold?) ;)lol

| | @RachelG,
FYI - kinda funny reading your comments the day after I read this article from the Orlando Sentinel: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com
You said: "Since Junior typically fades at the end of a race..." While the loop data says "Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the fastest driver late in a run..."
In reality, both are probably right. On long runs, Jr get faster as the run progresses (the numbers don't lie). However, the end of most races are plagued by an abundance of bent sheetmetal, and his car is often slow off the blocks on restarts.
Anyone know of a good site that summarizes that data on a regular basis? I love that kind of geeky stat stuff. |
| | CHEERS to the DVR it's Wednesday and I'm finally watching the beginning of the race.
CHEERS to floating in the pool Sunday and listening to the race, so glad I gave him those outdoor speakers for Christmas, but Weber is really sounding funny. Wait is that Ralph? WOW
CHEERS to Jimmie up front and staying there.
JEERS to forgetting all about sun block and I'm way old enough to know better. I paid for it big time, still hurting on Wednesday.
CHEERS to everyone napping so I get to watch the end of the race in peace, they usually talks so much I can't even hear the scanner from the laptop sitting in my lap.
JEERS to Kurt a little too loose and Jimmie back to 9th, I'm thinking a it's a remember last week moment.
CHEERS and JEERS to the rain dance. It looks like Reut could get a good finish but Jimmie seems to be stuck, I'm so torn.
JEERS to poor Ryan, now that Tony got his win I think he wants it even more.
CHEERS to Joey, color me shocked when I realized he was leading as the yellow came out.
CHEERS to Jeff Gordon admitting he was trying to push Joey a little during the caution in the hopes to run him out of fuel. That might have worked with Joey but Zippy knows better and Joey listens.
CHEERS to an excellent race by Ralph and a fun column by Carol. |
| | | @AnnR--no one knows *what* happened other than those involved. All we know is that there was a confrontation at a hotel in Loudon that was bad enough to get him suspended for the last 3 races. TNT has been mum and all Kyle has said on twitter is that Bill is going through a personal situation. It may have been physical as there's a rumor that Kyle helped to break it up. |
| | CHEERS to Carol and another awesome C&J, and ya'll posts that give me a sunshiney day of reading post race opinions :)
CHEERS to Ralph and his steppin up in the booth at the last minute, and Wally et al being such a TEAM together, right on!
CHEERS to Zippy and Joey winning the race on strategy. Kudos to the youngest Cup winner ever! A win is a win is a win :)
CHEERS to Carol for being vocal about the KryBaby. This is HER column and she can say what she feels.
Yes, Jr checked up, it happens. But if you are true Sprint caliber you anticipate and act accordingly. In my humble opinion, as with the DH's, KryBaby blew it. He forgets what a brake is there for.......he didn't anticipate and did not brake-------and NOW he apologizes? Too little, too late...
CHEERS to Bobby leading laps. That was good to see.
CHEERS to Jimmie Johnson leading 90+ laps!
CHEERS the word that Martin Truex Jr might be riding with Mikey's team next season.
CHEERS to the recent news that Jeff and Jimmie have publicly stated they do not want any meth drivers on the same track as them. Halleujah!
Can we all take a shudder here............and in this instance (re Mayfields re-instatement) wonder why he will be allowed on the track as soon as this Daytona?
CHEERS to all those in the Chase this weekend, if JM is on the track too.
And the DH and I pray he does not qualify, which means he does not quantify :)

| | Great job as always Carol, been reading your column for years but this is my first time posting.
I find it hard to believe that they couldn't have found someone with a little newer and bigger boat for Lindsay to do her story from.
I have to agree, great crew in the booth last week. ABTW.....anybody but the Waltrips! They are nothing but talking heads for their sponsors. And I wish someone would tell McReynolds how to pronounce Carpentier.
|
| | Welcome, mrmaico!
I don't mind the Waltrips at all. I'm amused by Michael, and what I like most about DW is that he is getting more and more sentimental the older he gets. I like that he wears his heart on his sleeve the way he does.

| | @mrmaico:
Welcome also!
I too read Carol for a bit before I took the plunge into writing comments. Hers is the only site that I do. You'll find this a great community for wonderful interaction, I think :)
@Carol:
I love the Waltrip brothers. IMHO they are just so sweet, without pretense. The world needs more of that 'just being ourselves' :) |
